Coco Cay scuba diving - a reason for your vacation
In the shallow waters off the main beach of CocoCay is the "wreck" of a small plane. The wreck was purposly placed in its current location to create an artificial reef and snorkel destination for the island visitors. Access points have been fenced off to prevent penetration. The wreck lies on the sandy bottom in 15 feet of water and is always filled with colorful tropical fish. It is surrounded by lush seagrass and is located near a swim platform and lifeguard station. The fish on this particular spot are very curious and playful since they are accustomed to being fed during by the cruise lines during the "Fish Feeding Extravaganza". Just a short swim off the beach is what is billed as a sunken shipwrecked replica of Queen Anne's Revenge ? Blackbeard's flagship that sunk off North Carolina in 1718. There's a large bright and highly visible mooring buoy over the "wreck", making it easy to find. Under the buoy you'll find only a row of cannons and what appears to be the freeboard of the port or starboard side of the ship. Colorful coral can be found growing on the wreck and cannons. The site is in 10-15 feet of crystal clear blue water, approximately 50 yards off shore. Schools of colorful tropicals frequent the site, making this a fun snorkel spot. Nearby, you'll also find the bow of the ship half-buried in the sand. Half-buried in the white sand, the bow of the Queen Anne's Revenge lies only a short swim away from the rest of the site. Here you'll find a replica of the bow protruding from the white sand, sporting a cannon on both her starboard and port sides. Nearby, you'll also find one or two cannons in the sand and seagrass.
